Are Roofing Scams Common in Michigan?

Avoid Scams Get The Right Solution

Michigan City Police constantly receives reports about roofing scams operating in the area and warns population not to fall victim of these con artists. The most recent case happened just a few months ago and the so-called contractors used to offer to spray shingles with a special substance that not only it was said to protects the shingle, but also seal the leaks and stop the aging process of roofing materials.

This is too good to be true, as there is no fountain of youth for roofs and you cannot extend their lifespan indefinitely, no matter how maintenance-oriented you are.

When a so-called contractor just happens to be in the neighborhood immediately after a storm, making you unsolicited offers for surprisingly low prices, you can safely consider that you are dealing with a scam. Also, if these so-called specialists spot your roof damage before you, shake their hands, say “Thank you for letting me know” and close the door. Do not sign any contract with them, as the damage they hurry to inform you on is likely invented.

Also make sure to avoid roofers who seem too eager to make you sign a contract, as well as those who want you to make a cash upfront payment. Never do business with a self-proclaimed roofer who doesn`t show you his license, certifications, guarantees and permits.  The best way to avoid a scam, is to go with a roofer that has their business locally like Roof One of Michigan.
