Celebrating Earth Day in Michigan

Here at Roof One we want to remind you that Earth Day is this Saturday, April 22nd. Need some ideas on how to celebrate? Here's a list of events happening around the state!

https://www.ahealthiermichigan.org/2017/04/17/michigan-earth-day-events/Celebrate the Planet: 2017 Michigan Earth Day Events – A Healthier Michigan With so many events commemorating Earth Day around the state, there’s no need to find a tree to hug (unless that’s your thing).

Check your city or township’s website for local clean-up events and consider taking part in some of the larger scale celebrations happening around Michigan.

All events will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 unless noted otherwise.

Northern Michigan

  • Take a walk in the wilderness on the trails of the Sylvania Wilderness in Watersmeet with the Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition at 10 a.m.
  • Build bat houses at the Porcupine Mountains Folk School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Take part in the first RecycleSmart Earth Day event at Medalie Park in Traverse City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • The Earth Week Plus Expo takes place at Cheboygan High School from 11:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

West Michigan

  • The second-annual Conservation Collective will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at Blandford Nature Center in Grand Rapids and will coincide with the opening of the new Mary Jane Dockeray Visitor Center.
  • A naturalist walk, eco-friendly craft and participatory earth appreciation songs will take place at Frederik Meijer Gardens’ Children’s Garden from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Celebrate with free admission at the Grand Rapids Art Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. and participate in a variety of activities.
  • The Kalamazoo Nature Center is hosting a full day of activities including a 5K run, crafts and demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The 12th annual Earth Day Lakeshore Celebration takes place in downtown Grand Haven with a parade starting at 12:30 p.m. and Earth Day Fair beginning at 1 p.m.
  • The Party for the Planet will be held on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids.

Southeast Michigan

  • One of the planet’s largest Earth Day celebrations will take place in downtown Rochester April 21-23. The MI Earth Day Fest has plenty of events for all ages, including a full live entertainment line-up and presentations by experts and community leaders.
  • The Michigan Science Center in Detroit will have special activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Detroit Zoo will host GreenFest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with educational activities focused on environmental conservation.
  • Ann Arbor’s annual Earth Day Festival will take place on Sunday, April 23 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Leslie Science & Nature Center.

Mid-Michigan

The Department of Environmental Quality has a great event locator on their website. See if there’s anything close to you and pitch in for the planet!
